69 Yale-New Haven Hospital physicians are among New York magazine’s “best doctors”

NEW HAVENNew York magazine has named 69 Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) physicians among the best in the New York metropolitan area in its 10th annual “Best Doctors” issue for 2007. The YNHH doctors, who provide a wide range of specialties, were selected from approximately 60,000 physicians in the greater New York metropolitan area.

Yale-New Haven Hospital placed doctors in 42 of the 68 specialty categories. The greatest concentration of sub-specialty care was in cancer, where YNHH had 26 doctors cited for various practices of cancer treatment.  In addition, nine YNHH doctors were cited in the area of pediatrics, five doctors in cardiac and thoracic surgery, six doctors affiliated with psychiatry, six doctors affiliated with women’s health, and five affiliated with neurology and neurosurgery.

“We’re pleased to have such a wide selection of our doctors included in so many specialty fields by New York magazine,” said Peter Herbert, M.D., chief of staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital. “This list is a reflection of the high esteem that the medical profession holds for our doctors and the quality of care our patients and their families receive.”

The physicians included on the list are selected by their peers through nominations, sent to over 12,000 doctors throughout the metropolitan New York area, and the listings represent the top 2 percent of New York area physicians. New York magazine collaborated with Castle Connolly medical, a research and publishing company to compile the prestigious list.
