Nuclear Medicine / Nuclear CardiologyNuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology scans are procedures that use radioactive tracers to diagnose and treat disease and evaluate function. The tracer is combined with different chemicals depending on the area of the body to be visualized and then a small amount is injected into the body and images are created.
Outpatient appointments for nuclear medicine can be made by physician offices, or by a prescription. NOTE - - All nuclear medicine procedures are performed by prescription only. A written physician's order is required in order to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the half hour, Monday through Friday. To schedule a nuclear medicine or nuclear cardiology procedure, please contact Yale-New Haven Hospital Outpatient Scheduling: (203) 688-2433. For questions about nuclear medicine, please contact the Nuclear Medicine Department: (203) 688-5610. NOTE - Radioactive doses are ordered specifically for each patient, 24 hours in advance, and each dose expires shortly after the appointment time. Patients late for their appointment may be rescheduled due to dose expiration. Click on a nuclear medicine or nuclear cardiology procedure listed below to view information about that procedure.
All patients scheduled for nuclear medicine exams should enter the hospital from 20 York Street. Use the East Pavilion elevators to the 2nd floor, and check in at the Diagnostic Radiology Waiting Room, directly across from the elevators. Nuclear Medicine/Nuclear Cardiology Links
