Allied health opportunities

Allied health professionals enjoy a challenging and rewarding atmosphere at Yale-New Haven. The allied health team is challenged to keep learning by an environment that rewards innovation and quality. For those who wish, tuition reimbursement is available to further a career.

X-ray, ultrasound nuclear medicine, MRI and and other areas of diagnostic imaging have access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Yale-New Haven Hospital has:

  • A full-time magnetic resonance imaging center
  • Advanced ultrasound capabilities, including those used for sophisticated high-risk maternity services
  • The hospital provides training and clinical education for technologists working in the field of diagnostic imaging.
  • Cardiac nuclear medicine unit opened in 2002.

A hiring bonus is offered to diagnostic imaging technologists of $4,000 if full time or $2,000 if part time. We also offer a preferred hiring program for DI students, which includes a higher starting pay rate plus the hiring bonus described. A special per diem rate of $35 per hour is available for DI professionals who are not interested in full- or part-time employment at this time.

Physical and occupational therapists help both adult and pediatric patients increase their independence and improve the quality of their lives.

Radiation therapists provide both curative and palliative services to patients, using the most advanced equipment available.

Medical technologists or clinical laboratory scientists perform accurate, state-of-the-art clinical laboratory testing in a timely and cost-effective manner to inpatients, outpatients and outreach clients served by Yale-New Haven Hospital. The department of laboratory medicine is comprised of several subsections of clinical laboratory services that perform about 4 million tests per year. Medical technologists work in a fast-paced, progressive, team-oriented atmosphere. Staff are able to expand their knowledge through exposure to advanced technology, continuing education and career ladder opportunities. The performance of routine and high level esoteric testing along with development technologies make the environment rich for medical technologists to apply clinical skill and critical thinking every day.

Pediatric sleep laboratory technicians play an important role in helping families unravel the mysteries of sleep disorders in children.

Pharmacists work closely with the medical team in developing treatment plans for the thousands of patients who come for advanced care at Yale-New Haven Hospital. They staff the Yale-New Haven Drug Information Center that serves health care professionals. They have been recognized for automated processes and error detection safeguards. The hospital also offers an internship and residency program in pharmacy.

Nutritionists and dietitians play an important role in helping patients heal as well as adopt healthy lifestyles—including a healthy diet—to stay well. Dietitians are an integral part of the care team, working with cardiologists, oncologists and other specialists to restore and maintain health. They work closely with cardiac rehabilitation patients and are also a part of many community programs offered by the hospital. Internships are available.

Respiratory care practitioners help Yale-New Haven patients of all ages who suffer from a variety of chronic lung conditions, ranging from children seen at the Children’s Hospital to people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Their goal is to promote health and restore quality of life. Students of respiratory therapy programs are given excellent exposure and training as respiratory therapy aides while in school. We offer a $4,500 hiring bonus to new hires.

Speech-language pathologists and audiologists work with both children and adults on an outpatient basis to improve their abilities and promote independence.

EEG-EKG technicians can work in a challenging atmosphere of a fast-paced Level I (most advanced) trauma center and many other departments.

Surgical technicians are a vital part of the operating room team. They work with some of the most experienced physicians in the U.S. Surgical patients travel to Yale-New Haven from across the country and sometimes the world.

Social workers offer emotional and psychosocial support to both adult and pediatric patients and family members dealing with the crisis of illness, hospitalization or other difficulty. A wide variety of support groups are offered.

Yale-New Haven is the first hospital in Connecticut to offer a Career Advancement Program (CAP) to acknowledge and reward our outstanding achievers and promote clinical excellence.
