Our history

World War II

Hospital during World War II.

The demands of total war took their toll from hospital personnel but also brought a sudden and critical need for preparation for defense against anticipated enemy attack at home. A fully developed organization of personnel duties for blackout and defense against enemy bombings, sabotage, and later possible gas attacks was set up. Supplies of plasma, medical goods, and hospital equipment were stored for ready access. Repeated drills were held to acquaint hospital personnel with methods established to cope with any emergency. These tests were repeated month after month and those who participated quickly learned speed and efficiency.
